Riley Minix
  • Achievements

    • Member of Florida Comets, 2009-2017, 3rd grader playing 6th grade. Dr. Shaw helped to develop his fundamental skills at a young age as well as his basketball IQ and stressed the importance of good grades and character.

    • 6th grade led the Florida Comets to the National Championship in Hampton, Virginia.

    • Led Comets to numerous districts, states championships & National Appearances, Numerous MVPs & All Tournament Awards 

    • These experiences were invaluable when playing middle school and high school basketball. Riley was a basketball starter all four years at Vero Beach High. Riley won MVP for the District as well as being named Player of the 

    Year for District 19. Riley graduated from VBHS with honors and GPA 4.500.

    • Southeastern University, Sun Conference Freshman of the Year, while leading the team to their first Sun Conference Tournament Championship and regular-season championship in the same season, also being named MVP (Tournament)& First Team All-TSC. Riley has a 4.000 GPA @ Southeastern University.

    Administration in May of 2021. I work in the Campus Recreation Department at Boston College where I am the Graduate Assistant of Intramurals. I also officiate high school basketball and flag football so I can stay involved with the game. 

    • It was an honor playing for Coach Shaw and the Florida Comets. I cannot thank Dr. Shaw enough for how much he did for me as a player. Without the Comets I would have never to been able to play basketball at a high level. I had great teammates over the 6 years I played with the Comets and we made memories that I will never forget. Thank you, Florida Comets

Although basketball was my first love, my senior year in high school, I decided to put my efforts int track and field. I earned an athletic scholarship to pursue track & field at Florida International University. I graduated from FIU in 2019.

    • I am an elementary school teacher and certified personal trainer. In my leisure time I also coach youth basketball and track & field in my hometown, Vero Beach, Fl. I am very thankful for the Florida Comets Organization and Coach Shaw for developing me as a player and a young woman. He constantly pushed 

    me academically, athletically, and introduced me to leadership skills and hard work early on. With all these traits I was able to use them for the rest of my life.
